How To Take Care Of Your Braces When Travelling

Posted on 8/22/2022 by Widner Elite Oral Surgery and Dental Implants
How To Take Care Of Your Braces When TravellingIf you plan to travel and you wear braces, you need to plan ahead to ensure you keep your smile healthy as you focus on having fun. Before starting your trip, schedule an appointment with our orthodontist. You will need to have the braces checked to see if they need adjustment. It is one of the important things you need to do before traveling to ensure the braces continue doing their job. Having said that, here are other things you need to do in order to take care of your braces.

Pack the Essentials

The first items you need to pack are your toothpaste and toothbrush. Also, gather other things you normally use to keep the braces in good shape. Floss picks, dental picks, mouthwash, and floss threaders are some of the items you need. Since you might have to use these items in the morning before leaving your house, just make sure you have a list to help you remember what to pack during that morning.

Find Foods Friendly to Braces

Sometimes you might be eating while on the go. You may also be staying in unfamiliar places, so there may be challenges in finding the right foods for braces-wearers. However, it is quite manageable if you can remember what to avoid. Generally, our orthodontics team recommends avoiding chewy, sticky, hard, or crunchy foods or those that you have to bite into.

Soft foods that come in single-serving containers include apple sauce, brie cheese, bananas, yogurts, deli meat, and more. And if you are concerned about what foods may be available while traveling, you can do a little food preparation the night before.

During your appointment with our orthodontics team prior to your trip, ask about how you can take care of your restorations. As you begin the preparations for your trip, schedule that important appointment. Call us today.
