Fun Ways to Teach Your Kid to Brush Their Teeth

Fun Ways to Teach Your Kid to Brush Their TeethTaking care of your child includes ensuring they maintain a healthy dental hygiene routine. It's never too early to start teaching the little one's good oral habits. We're here to guide you on the necessary steps to take in order to ensure your young bones develop proper oral cleaning habits.

When to start

Our practice suggests starting cleaning your child's teeth as soon as you start feeding them. You can use a warm wet cloth to clean your child's gum after meals. This will ensure that bacteria do not accumulate on your child's gums.

When the first tooth appears, you can start brushing with a soft bristled toothbrush. You will have to help your child brush until they are old enough to tie their own shoelaces. At this time they might be old enough to hold the toothbrush properly. You can make brushing fun by having brushing battles with your little one.

Steps to follow

When teaching your child how to brush, we recommend following a few steps in a routine manner to make it easier for your child to master the process.
Start by applying the right amount of toothpaste to your child's toothbrush. We recommend a rice-sized amount for infants and a pea-size for children above the age of six.

Next, you should ensure the toothbrush is angled towards the upper and lower gums. You should then brush in a circular manner ensuring you reach all parts of the teeth, the interior, exterior gums, and tongue.

You can make tooth brushing even more exciting by rewarding your child with sugar-free gum after brushing. Contact us to book an appointment with our dentists where we will give you more tips on how to make brushing fun for you and your kids.
