Implant Supported Dentures

Elderly woman enjoying her new smileIf you are tired of applying adhesive to your dentures or you do not like when they slip, you may want to learn more about implant-supported dentures. We, at Widner Elite Oral Surgery and Dental Implants, find that denture wearers often are quite pleased when implants support their dentures, as it gives them a new feeling of confidence, both socially and personally.

What Are Implant-Supported Dentures?

Implant-supported dentures are considered the middle-priced solution between advanced total-arch implant dentures and the conventional dentures you apply with adhesive. If you are seeking an affordable way to improve chewing or interacting socially, implant-supported dentures offer the ideal solution.

Because the dentures are anchored with implants, the prosthesis can be shaped like a horseshoe, which prevents bulkiness and gives your tongue more room as well. It also makes it easier for you to taste the food you eat. In addition, you no longer have to deal with messy adhesives.

How Can Wearing Implant-Supported Dentures Improve My Diet?

When you wear implant-supported dentures, you can eat more healthily, as the dentures will not slip and are far more sturdy than conventional dentures. In fact, many of our patients, who wear the dentures, report better health and nutrition. With these dentures, you can eat all the foods you normally avoid with traditional dentures. Patients enjoy eating corn on the cob once again, as well as a variety of vegetables and fruits, nuts, and thicker cuts of meat, such as steak.

Can You Remove Implant-Supported Dentures?

You can easily snap the dentures onto the implants or remove them for cleaning. Therefore, you can clean these dentures as easily as you would a conventional denture.

What Are Some of the Benefits of Implant-Supported Dentures?

When you wear implant-supported dentures, you will realize a number of benefits. These benefits include improved chewing and speaking. You can also smile more easily if you know your dentures won’t slip out of place. Again, you don’t need adhesive to fix your dentures. Therefore, they function much like natural teeth. Because they are removable, you can keep the teeth sparkling white. Also adding the implants preserves the bone and gum tissue, which otherwise would continue to deteriorate.

How Are Implant-Supported Dentures Placed?

This type of dental procedure is rather simple, as your existing denture is worn temporarily until your new dentures are made. You will receive your new permanent dentures about four months after your implant surgery.

What Types of Implant-Supported Dentures Are Used?

We use two types of dentures for snapping on the dentures. We use bar-retained dentures and ball-retained dentures. When bar-retained dentures are used, they attach to two to five dental implants. Clips or similar types of attachments are used to fix the denture to the bar.

On the other hand, ball-retained dentures, also known as stud-attachment dentures, fit onto ball-shaped connections on the implants. If you visit our office for a consultation, we will show you models of the dentures and how they attach to the implants. The connections can be made in a one-step or two-step process, depending on your particular dental needs.

We want you to be happy with your dentures and how they function and look. That is why we support the use of implant-supported dentures. Give us a call for more details today. Call Widner Elite Oral Surgery and Dental Implants at (737) 309-4351 for an appointment for a consultation now.
